The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) was signed into law March 27, 2020. It contained $1.9 billion for South Carolina through the Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF). The South Carolina General Assembly authorized the spending of the CRF in two phases: Act 142 of 2020 (Phase 1) and Act 154 of 2020 (Phase 2).
