Analyzes and experiments with known and unknown substances using chemical and physical analytical procedures. Assists in the development of improved analytical procedures, experimental methodologies and laboratory practices. Operates and maintains complex analytical equipment. Oversees or trains laboratory professionals, paraprofessionals or students.
Knowledge of the principles and laboratory applications of chemistry. Skill in the use of standard laboratory equipment. Ability to perform basic scientific mathematical calculations. Ability to perform examinations, analyses and experiments related to an assigned specialty area. Ability to lead and train other laboratory staff. Ability to communicate effectively.
A bachelor's degree in chemistry; or a bachelor's degree in the natural sciences with academic credits in chemistry, plus work experience in a setting related to the area of employment.
