Performs microscopic, biochemical and serological tests and examinations on human and animal specimens. Performs qualitative and quantitative examinations on milk, water and food samples to assess bacteriological and physical qualities. Assists in the development of improved analytical procedures, experimental methodologies and laboratory practices. Conducts standardized quality control procedures in all areas of assigned work. Trains lower-level employees in standardized test procedures.
Knowledge of the principles and laboratory applications of microbiology. Ability to perform examinations, analyses and experiments related to an assigned specialty area. Ability to lead and train lower-level employees. Ability to communicate effectively.
A bachelor's degree in microbiology or medical technology; or a bachelor's degree in the natural sciences with academic credits in biology, plus work experience in a setting related to the area of employment.
