General Nature of Work

Participates in the support of database products for a mainframe data processing installation.

Examples of Work

Checks database statistical reports, ensuring that backups were successful. Receives training in the concepts and specific applications of selected software products. Assists in the testing of new database products. Prepares written reports on the efficiency and performance of a database. Assists database administrator in writing programs to support database management systems. Maintains the physical descriptions of database components.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of physical database structures and operating systems. Knowledge of methods and techniques of database management. Knowledge of higher-level programming languages which access the database. Ability to assist in the preparation of non-technical reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff. Ability to communicate effectively.

Minimum Requirements

An associate degree in computer science or information systems and experience in systems development and maintenance or technical support.A bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience.
