General Nature of Work

Manages a staff in the scheduling and control of all computer jobs for a complex system with a multiprogramming environment; coordinates jobs to ensure timely production.

Examples of Work

Supervises a control section, including the tape library, scheduling of computer runs and messenger services. Prepares shift schedules, assigns jobs to personnel and monitors results for completeness and accuracy. Resolves problems in scheduling and the assignment of job priorities. Reviews and evaluates production system; recommends and implements efficient and effective workflow changes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of relevant computer programming languages, use of job control language and the maintenance of a tape library system. Knowledge of computers and related equipment. Ability to organize work and direct the activities of a production services staff. Ability to establish good working relationships with customers and computer operations staff members. Ability to communicate effectively.

Minimum Requirements

An associate degree with experience in computer operations or a related data processing field.
